Aloha fellow Elk members! I am profoundly pleased that there are many lodge members who have “stepped up (and re-stepped up) to the plate” as volunteers for a variety of committees (as chairperson, co-chairperson and committee member), volunteering for specific events and activities, as well as serving on the board. I salute all the volunteers for your unselfish giving and say mahalo to you. The need for lodge members to volunteer is continuous. In community service throughout the world, the more people volunteering, the more service can be done. Feel free to contact me to chat about how you can help our lodge and local community.

Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 14, 2023. When the United States started to honor the “mom’s” in the early 1900’s, it was a recognition of mothers and motherhood. The tradition to show appreciation over the years has been with gifts, food and family gatherings. For the mothers it is a personal day of celebration. It is also a day to pause and reflect on mother’s who have passed away, are at a distance or for some, to think of a mother whom they have never met. At the Honolulu Elks Lodge, we will have a nice day offered in the club restaurant and Chaplain Delorese Gregoire will lead us in the Mother’s Day celebration.

Memorial Day – Monday, May 29, 2023 Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. In Hawai’i, the one hundred years plus of military service of men and women, many who are residents of Hawai’i, devoted and sacrificed themselves for the love and duty to the United States. Veterans at large and Elks Veterans, shall not be forgotten. Please give deep thought to your loved ones, relatives, friends, neighbors and to all Veterans who have served our Country. On this Memorial Day, let’s be mindful of Elkdom and the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity.
