‘SERVICE OVER SELF ‘continues! Pearl Harbor Day, Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, New Years are pau. Here is hoping you and family/friends celebrated in style. For those that donated to Toys for Tots, mahalo plenty. We celebrated a great midnight Memorial Service with 50+ veterans, held at the Vietnam Memorial, by the state capitol, the evening of 24 December, as we remembered Christmas in Vietnam and all our brothers & sisters who gave their all. “Silent Night” sung at midnight is very emotional for many of us.
We accept these events/ceremonies as Veterans, Elks and as part of our theme. At this, the end of the calendar year, mahalo for this work. Those of you that helped with the above events, mahalo plenty. I’d list names, but if I’d miss one, auwe! Now what are WE doing to help for 2018?
With four (4) months left in this Lush year what can you help our committee with? We’ve 40+ veterans that want to attend a UH baseball game on February 18th. Tickets are on order, wounded warriors and families are set to attend. Want to join us? I’ll get more tickets. FYI, opposing team is Air Force. Let me know by January 31st. Prices for tickets are less than $10.00/ person.
Your ideas are welcome for next year’s ER beginning in May. Expect to see our Lodge utilized and enjoyed by wounded veterans from the Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America and Student Veterans of America.
Who can help with planning Flag Day (18 June)? How should we celebrate the 4th of July? The 100th anniversary of the end of World War I on 11 November needs a HUGE celebration. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by in the Lodge. I’m there usually twice weekly and the first Saturday of each month for our VFW Post 8616 meeting. All Veterans breakfast at 0830 with the Post meeting at 1000. Join us please. Aloha, Ron Lockwoodby
