June went out in style this year with Kumulokahi holding its Inaugural “Choose Your Weapon Surf Challenge,” held right out in front of Honolulu Elks Lodge 616. All ages participated in a variety of events. We’re still putting the final reports together and will be able to offer a more detailed description of this event in next months Aloha Elk.
Holding to our surf theme, the Kumulokahi Regatta team has qualified for seven events in this years Hui Wa’a Waikiki Race. Keiki and Adult crews are looking forward to a day of sun and surfing in our six-man canoes right in the center of Waikiki. In addition to the Waikiki race, Hui Wa’a Championships will be held on July 21st.
Our adult long-distance paddlers are already in training for this season’s opening race down the Napali coast on Kauai. This will be our third consecutive season participating in what is deemed the most beautiful canoe race in the world. We’ll also be traveling back to Maui this year for the funniest race in the world, the Pailolo Challenge.
As always, members of Kumulokahi Elks Canoe Club appreciate all the support we receive from Honolulu Elks Lodge 616. Without you, we would not be able to do the work in the paddling community that we do to perpetuate the culture of Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing and to proudly represent the BPOE 616!
