We are five months into our Elks year and we continue our good work. For the third consecutive year our Lodge has participated in the annual Duke’s Ocean- fest. This year we provided 400 bento style lunches for the Matson Menehune Surf Contest for boys and girls ages 6-13. I’d like to thank our 616 youth pad- dlers for representing our Lodge by distributing the lunches.
Next time you visit our Lodge stop by the Heritage Center. Our Historian Anita Manning has assembled a timeline of our history complete with photos, letters and items of historical significance that tells the story of our Lodge. Also, our logo shop display is well stocked for those omiyage items for family and friends. Proceeds from logo shop sales benefit the California Hawaii Ma- jor Projects and Elks National Foundation charities.
In our Lodge’s pursuit to be a responsible community partner and reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, the Member Renovations Advisory Group has recommended installation of a rooftop photovoltaic system (PV) on portions of the second floor deck. The benefits to our Lodge will be a reduced electric bill, roof preparation/repairs with a conservative value of $100K and shade coverage on the second floor deck to allow for member usage. The project comes with no out of pocket costs to the Lodge and we have an option to purchase the system in 5-7 years. Similar systems have been installed at Barber’s Point Elementary and Aliamanu Elementary.
As we enter the fall season, we have televised University of Hawaii football games in the Club, ENF fundraisers, Halloween events, Veterans Day festivities, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The next three months will go by quickly, so we will do our best to keep the membership informed via email, website, newsletter, informational boards and postings. Please enjoy and support our Lodge and Club.
With over 3800 members and one of the premier clubs in the nation of Elk’s Lodges, we want our members’ feedback. In the next couple of weeks, we will be disseminating electronic and paper surveys that will pro- vide an opportunity for our members to be part of our strategic planning in all areas of the Club. To en- sure confidentiality, we have partnered with a third party vendor to receive and analyze your responses.
