Our Kumulōkahi keiki paddlers enjoyed a wonderful Nā ‘Ōpio season earlier this year. The intimate combination of new and returning paddlers pulled together some solid crews who improved with each of the four regattas participated. They even managed to earn our club a few ribbons. We were very proud of all of our paddlers and sincerely appreciated Shafer Kam’s willingness to step up and serve on the Nā ‘Ōpio Student Executive Board as Assistant Race Director.
One of the highlights of the season was at the January 11th regatta where our Mixed Novice A crew finished first in their heat and fourth overall. Our paddlers were pumped and ready for a strong finish, but unfortunately, the Nā ‘Ōpio Championship race was cancelled due to severe weather. Coaches, paddlers, and their families were still able to celebrate their accomplishments and close the season with a simple gathering at the lodge.
Practices began April 10th for the upcoming Hui Wa‘a Regatta. Registration is still open, so if you have keiki interested in joining our crew, please contact Club Secretary (Keiki Coordinator) Mai Ly Schultz at firstname.lastname@example.org or 808-497-9404 for more information.
