Elks 616 family and friends enjoyed a fun-filled day at the Lodge on August 26, 2017. Over 250 participants came down to the Lodge and enjoyed the event. There was something for everyone: canoe rides at the Kumulokahi booth, cookies from the Kupuna, Boy Scout fun, fabulous pictures of our Elk veterans at the Americanism and Veterans booth and great information regarding our scholarship programs. This was all provided by our committees.
The reward for visiting each booth was a turn at the spinning wheel for a prize. The club offered a special on hot dogs, and the TV showed university of Hawaii football team’s winning game…something for everyone. Scrip was sold for opportunity baskets, provided by the different committees and a bicycle (donated by Kumulokahi). Lots of winners!!! The white Elks sale was held upstairs in the Lodge room with hundreds of items displayed, adding close to $2,000.00 to our Major Project donation. This was directed by Bunnie Takahashi putting in hours of work sorting through all the donations given to our Lodge.
A special thanks to Michele Aiwohi for the generous donation of one of her beautiful hand- made Lauhala hats; over $200 in scrip for the hat was received. Our Poster child, Aya, and her family were introduced to the members by ER Bud Lush. Aya and her friends paddled the outrigger canoe and enjoyed the festivities of the day.
A big Mahalo to all our committees for their hard work, beautiful gift baskets, and great displays. Over 60 volunteers and 900 volunteer hours were recorded. This is what made this Member Appreciation Day a huge success. Over $15,000.00 will be donated to our Major Project charity from this event. As ER Bud Lush’s motto states “ELKS WORKING TOGETHER, MAKING A DIFFERENCE”.
The Major Project opportunity ticket drawing was the finale of the afternoon. For a list of the winners see separate box. Mere words do not describe the gratitude we feel to all our members and volunteers.
