Aloha All. The Kūpuna Committee is preparing to embark on a brand new year of exciting activities. In the past, under the leadership of founder Auntie Edna, the Kūpuna Committee organized excursions to Kualoa Ranch and Historic Hawaiian Fishponds including a luncheon show; to Sea Life Park for a Luau and entertainment; Kūpuna promoted Elks values by procuring, decorating and entering a trolley in the Kuhio Day Parade: held a wildly successful spaghetti/bingo fundraiser; sponsored a lecture series for Lodge members; taped and aired 3 segments of the TV series Elks Kūpuna Stories; engaged in various community service activities; held Haku Lei workshops; fundraised for MP, ENF; and the Boy Scouts; held holiday luncheons; assisted the Veterans committee; worked with Kumulokahi: participated in ceremonies at Punchbowl and elsewhere honoring Hawaiians who died in the Civil war. Kūpuna worked together with other Elks committees on community service activities to foster Elks tradition of Elks care, Elks share.
The Committee is now working on a schedule of activities for this new Elks year to possibly include events such as attending an Aquarium Luau; taking a Wartime History Tour; visiting Foster Gardens and the KuanYin temple; and visiting the Ft DeRussy museum and the Hale Koa for lunch. We are also exploring the possibility of again participating in the Kuhio Day Parade.
In response to the many members and friends who asked, we are happy to report that another Spaghetti/Bingo fundraiser is planned for this August. The last week of April we will have a Haku Lei workshop for May Day. Come learn how to make Haku lei or get one made by one of our Kūpuna. Exact dates will be posted in the lobby.
