Aloha Brother and Sister Elks,
WE’RE OFF AND RUNNING!…It’s just a little over 60 days into the new Elk year and our Lodge is off to a great start! Our members and families enjoyed a festive Spring Easter Hunt and our traditional Mother’s Day Brunch which was a huge success. Our Lodge hosted a Court of Honor Ceremony for not one, but two Eagle Scouts from our lodge Boy Scout Troup #616 and the Kumulokahi Canoe Club is gearing up for the summer long distance and regatta season with returning paddlers and new paddlers waiting in the wings. We held our traditional Memorial Day ceremony to honor and remember those who have sacrificed their lives to make America free and we memorialized our “absent members” with a wreathe presentation at the Lodge memorial site.
As we continue to progress through this year, the Elks Flag Day Ceremony is a time honored event and ritual and will be held at our Lodge on June 14. This ceremony has been performed for over 10 years onboard the battleship USS Missouri, at the Pearl Harbor Naval Base along with other Hawaii lodges. But this year each lodge will conduct this event at their own home lodge with their members, guest and the general public in attendance. This ceremony is designated by the Grand Lodge as mandatory and is the first one the Exalted Ruler and Officers will be called upon to observe. For a patriotic organization such as ours, this event is one where we have the opportunity to make known to all of the high regard that we have for our Flag. At every local lodge meeting, and at many other functions, we as Elks salute our Flag and renew our allegiance to it. There are many in our community who do not know of our great love for our Flag and what it stands for. This will be an excellent opportunity to remind them by holding a public ceremony. Our lodge will be performing this ceremony with the United States Marine Corp Band and Color Guard in attendance. Also our lodge Boy Scout Troop #616, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, lodge officers, dignitaries and special guest speakers will perform this ceremony with all the prompt and circumstance that it deserves. I invite all members, their families and friends to attend this public ceremony.
SUMMER IS HERE!…To verify that summer is here, we need only to look at the smiles on the faces of our children who are given a break from school and are free to enjoy the many activities available to them here in paradise. Among the things on their “to do lists” for their summer vacation will be a visit to our lodge to swim in the pool and enjoy the ocean that is right at our doorstep. We look forward to hearing their laughter as they celebrate a well-deserved reprieve from the rigors of their educational journey. Just as importantly, I invite members to continue to dine in our restaurant, relax in the lounge or share their stories at the bar and enjoy the amenities the club has to offer you and your families and invited guests.
