Mahalo everyone. Our day with the Wounded Warriors in February at the baseball park was a great success. While the weather rained out the second (2) game and kept a few home, 101 Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy warriors attended the UH v Air Force baseball game. We also had seven (7) VFW veterans, 5 Elks and 14 other volunteers. Food, drink and comradery were the order of the day.
We (myself and PER Ray) are furiously writing an ENF grant to fund /hold a PTSD Symposium at the Lodge later this year. Hopefully, we have all followed the ER’s advice to donate to ENF. At least $5.00 please, as the more members we have donating, the better we look in applying for these grants. I’ll keep you posted.
Our Loyalty Day project for 1 May is on track, thanks to the Lodge. Funding was approved at our February meeting and flags have been ordered. Upon their arrival, at the end of March, Elks from 616 and VFW Post 8616 members will help install flags in every class- room (grades preschool through 5). The VFW will be providing copies of the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ to every student in the school. Want to volunteer? If you are available, in early April, during the 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. hours to help install the flags, please let me know – lockwood0849@ gmail.com Mahalo.
As always, I can be found at the Lodge on the first Saturday (7 April and 5 May) for the VFW Post 8616 meeting. Veteran or not, look for our red or blue shirts and stop by and say hello. Our breakfast is at 0830, then followed by our meeting. The meeting has been in various rooms the past few months, so find us at breakfast. Ron Lockwood
