In March of 2015 Elks Lodge 616 P.R. Chair George del Barrio produced a radio spot and targeted the message in what he called a “gratitude” campaign. George emphasized that the pride of being an Elks Lodge member was a powerful resource in reinvigorating the volunteer base and overall energy towards our motto “Elks Care and Elks Share”. With the guidance of Hawaii District P.R. chair PDDGER John Brown and Grand Lodge P.R. Chair Richard Gathen the campaign was launched. The immediate response to members and member family and friends who heard the radio spot were along the lines of super positive and surprised.
But focusing on social media as a powerful resource the radio spot was re-produced into a video that has been getting national Elks attention. Much of the chatter (comments) on the Facebook posting of the video has been super positive but deeper review there are many members out there that believe this kind of online campaign is a tremendous call-to-action resource the many lodges should focus on.
George had mentioned that what brought the video to a smooth conversation was both the message and the targeted “boost” using Facebook’s promotional tools. George shared his thoughts further in using the same types of campaigns for member retention, new member acquisition and of course, fundraising.
George is now the Leading Knight at our lodge and says he’s going to work real hard to continue the social media strategies for his Major Projects fundraising mission.by
