Elk’s 616 Scouts Soaring!
Our country’s national youth organization, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), thrive on the sponsors such as the Honolulu Elks who serve as the Charter Organization of Cub Scout Pack 616 and Boy Scouts Troop 616. The primary reason why there’s a high level of excitement by BSA is that Scouts, in their adulthood, SOAR!
As the 616 Scouts complete the 2017 year, the annual Ho’omaluhia camping outing is best narrated by Boy Scout Kalai Akau. “Troop 616 went on our annual Halloween camp. The Halloween camp is held at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. At the camp our Troop went on the lehua and loop trail for a hike. On the hike our Troop had to make their own breakfast, lunch and dinner. At night the Boy Scouts made a bon fire and performed skits. We all learned a lot and had a wonderful time.” Such is the “real” experience of being a Scout.
Another recent highlight for the Scouts was participating as the Color Guards in front of the Honolulu Elks Trolley in the Waikiki Christmas Parade. Scouts, leaders and parents were proud to hold the Elks and Scouting flag during the procession in front of hundreds of spectators. This is one of many experiences that the Scouts will remember in their days of being a youth.
Lastly, throughout the collective efforts of Honolulu Elks, Scout leaders and parents, and foremost, the Scouts themselves, for referring boys to join our wonderful program. We have seen new Scouts refer and bring in their friends to join 616 Scouting. That is the way of getting the word out that when you have a well run volunteer program, dedicated leaders and supportive sponsors, we will thrive and assured that our youth will be successful leaders in the future.
