WOW! Attended six events for Veterans Day. All memorable in their own way. Now we gear up for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day on 7 December and a parade in Waikiki. I am hoping the Elks has a trolley in this parade once again. The Scouts and Kupuna did an outstanding job with decorations in years past.
Remembrances for the Somalia Campaign beginning 5 December 1992, the end of the Iraq War on 15 December 2011 and the Panama Campaign beginning on 20 December 1989 will see many ceremonies for NVS chair and veterans to attend. The year will end with a ceremony on 31 December for the 2013 ending of the Kosovo campaign and the birthday of the Wounded Warrior Ohana founder and Elk Member, Dick Rankin. I appreciate our being able to support this organization…we will do more.
TOYS FOR TOTS at the Lodge is on-going and ends on 10 December. Hopefully, you have dropped off your unwrapped gifts for age 2 – 12+. Mahalo to the Marine Corps Reserve for undertaking this job yearly. We look forward to seeing you again in 2019.
Finally, we will be bringing a family readiness group on site to learn hula while their sailors are deployed. Details are being worked out, but the plan is to open this opportunity to Lodge members also. Stay tuned to the January edition for complete details.
Ron Lockwood, NVS Chair
From the NVS committee, chair, and volunteers, we wish everyone a peaceful and healthy 2019. Mahalo for all your support this 2018.by
