This Fourth of July we are trying something new. Bring the keiki aged twelve and under to our table and any child that can recite the Pledge of Allegiance from memory will receive a cold treat. There is one treat per keiki and will run from 1000 until noon. Start practicing with your keiki.
The VFW National Convention is 20-26 July and will see your NVS chair in Kansas City in attendance. The Convention provides an opportunity to ‘talk story’ and see where we can assist each other in projects for the year. We will also meet with the Marine Corps League, the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Stu- dent Veterans Association, and the Wounded Warrior Ohana to see about collaborating with them on other events.
Grant Requests. I’ll be submitting at least two more grant requests to Grand Lodge for a pilot program for veterans and their families. If approved, we will kick off this program in the fall. I appreciate all Elks who have offered to assist in this project. Mahalo and please stand by as we try to fully fund the program and put all the pieces in place.
UH v Navy Football. This is one of our collaborative projects with the Wounded Warrior Ohana. Free tickets will be available for the September 1st game. If you are interested in attending, let me know. Due to NCAA regulations, I’ll need to gather some information from you by mid-August. Stay tuned for next month’s Aloha Elk for more details. (Hint, hint: I’d love to fill a trolley from the Lodge to attend this game.)
This July we remember the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement on 27 July 1953, that ended the fighting phase of the Korean conflict.
As always, if you want to meet and talk story, I’m at the Lodge on Saturday 7 July and 7 August from 0830
– 1100 with VFW Post 8616. Look for the group in their red and/or blue shirts or drop me a note at lock- firstname.lastname@example.org
