Happy and excited, do not fully express my emotions about being elected to be your new Exalted Ruler for 2014-2015. I am truly humbled and honored. Mahalo for your trust and confidence.
My theme for the year: “Elks together, serving with a heart of Aloha” It is a blessing to be a member of such an incredible Fraternal Organization. The Charitable great works that we do as a lodge is truly remarkable. I hope our members will continue to support our charities, Major Projects and the Elks National Foundation.
I hope to continue the good works of the previous years, and I want to thank all the Past Exalted Rulers for leading the way, and paving the path to our future. Especially this past year under Bud Lush. He was encouraging to me all year to be the best I can be. Thank you Bud for your help and guidance from day ONE. You continue to inspire me to know, love and appreciate all that we do in Elkdom.
I am also excited about our new chair officers, Hiram Keliipio (Leading Knight), Andy Watson (Loyal Knight), and George del Barrio (Lecturing Knight). And our incredible slate of Trustees, George West, Deb Knight, Judy Rubano, John Nadler and Byron Apo. We are all going to be tasked with leading our lodge into the coming years, with dignity, honor and respect. This is your new 9 member Board of Directors for 2014-2015. I also want to thank former Trustee Gloria Yau for her incredible dedication to our Lodge. She embodied and lived by the phrase “For the good of the Lodge”. Her tireless and countless hours are commendable. Thank you Gloria.
The Master plans for the upgrade and remodeling of our lodge is really exciting, and a long time coming. We are hopeful that many of the new projects can be completed in the next coming year. One of our goals is to instill “Pride in Membership” for all of our members, Old & New. With the new relaxed dress code, (collared shirts, dress shorts, etc) and the shortened ritual (less than an hour) we are hopeful that our members will come to meetings more often and see what is new and exciting about the New Elks Lodge. This year coming to meetings can be rewarding in many ways. Plans you will soon hear about are fun and exciting. You might win a prize or two. All you have to do is come to the general lodge meetings.
Your new HOUSE COMMITTEE with John Carroll as Chairman is raring to go with new and exciting plans for making you, our members, proud to be an Elk, and proud to be a member of the Benevolent and protective order of Elks Lodge 616.
My goal is to continue to lead us into the future in my year in office, and I promise to work hard to continue the good works of our lodge. Our focus again will be on the charitable works of our lodge. We are a Benevolent, Charitable, and Patriotic Organization.
There are Children with disabilities who need us, there are Scholarships to provide to our youth who are in need of our continued support, and Veterans in need of a helping hand and who deserve our thanks for serving our country. I want our lodge to be the best it can be. We owe it to our members. To the future of our lodge. To our children and to their children, and on and on. This club will be here long after we are all gone.
What do we want them to say of us?
My hope is that they will say, job well done. Mahalo nui loa.
“Elks together, serving with a heart of Aloha”
