We continue our good works with our Lodge being represented at the recent Senior/Good Life Fair held at the Blaisdell Arena last month. Thank you to Gloria Yau and her team for representing our Lodge. I also had an opportunity to represent our Lodge in Kona for the California Hawaii Elks Association
(CHEA) President’s Dinner. President Duitsman, his First Lady Beth, and State Vice Presidents were hosted by Kona Lodge and our State VP, John Smith. All in attendance witnessed the Aloha Spirit from our local lodges with fun and fellowship throughout the evening.
Earlier last month, our Lodge had an opportunity to host a CHEA business seminar. It was the first in recent memory that allowed our lodges an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and best practices about what other lodges in our district are doing. Highlighted topics were Drug Awareness Programs (https://cheaelks.org/youth-activities/drug-awareness) and Bequest and Living Trust November 2018 Vol 79 No. 3 Giving (https://chea-elks.org/major-project/blt-legacy-giving). Please visit these sites for more information. Lecturing Knight Debbie Olson continues to assist in scheduling community partners for our talk story at the first lodge meeting of each month. We were honored in October to have the Blood Bank of Hawaii give a short presentation. At a recent Lodge blood drive in September, our Lodge donated 22 pints of blood. Because the Blood Bank’s daily needs are 200 pints of blood, we hope to continue our contribution on a quarterly basis. Also, we have a special guest in November, so stay tuned for announcements.
November is upon us as we prepare for Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. Ron Lockwood and PER Augie Rey Fernandez are leading our efforts in honoring our Veterans. Thanksgiving is always about family, friends, and giving, so please look out for our electronic notifications on “What’s Happening”.
