As June arrives, summer will be in full swing with Flag Day and Father’s Day festivities. All Elks pledge allegiance to our nation’s flag and Flag Day has been a Grand Lodge national event since 1911. Our Honolulu Lodge 616 Flag
Day observance will be held June 16th in our Lodge Room and is open to our members, guests and friends. June 17th is Father’s Day and we will be celebrating Dad’s at the club, so join fellow Elks for Father’s Day food and beverage specials in the Club.
Our fitness and locker rooms opened on May 2nd and while there are still punch list items that require completion, initial reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. A big Mahalo to Secretary West, Past Exalted Ruler Kepaa and staff for the time and effort they’ve spent assigning access cards, lockers and locks. With over 1100 access cards to distribute and over 250 lockers to assign, it has been no easy task. Additionally, renovations to the interior portions of the club are very close to completion. Please attend a lodge or board meeting for the latest time- lines.
Continuing with my theme of collaborating with community organizations, the Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC) gave a pre- sentation on their organization at our May 8th meeting. DVAC receives and answers thousands of calls and requests from people affected by domestic violence. Domestic violence has many causes and its effects are often more varied and complex than we realize. I encourage our members to learn more about the warning signs of domestic violence and, if necessary, refer friends and family to this vital organization. Lastly, I respectfully ask that members who purchased access cards to our fitness and locker rooms familiarize themselves with newly revised and approved House Rules that are posted. Most importantly, please remember that access cards are required for entry and only the person named on the fitness facility agreement may use the card.
Sharing of access cards is strictly prohibited. Please help us in enforcing our house rules. Let’s ensure that care of our facilities is every member’s responsibility, duty and obligation.by
